Products Overview
more surplus equipment
Many incumbent water companies and contractors currently hold large stocks of excess plant, equipment and chemicals for the treatment of water. Most are stored at substantial cost for later use and others are scrapped. Some of this surplus is sold second-hand through trade magazines, but this provides the seller with a small customer base and limited global reach. waterexchange will create an efficient global marketplace for industry surplus.

more abstraction licences
An abstraction licence gives the holder the legal right to take a specified quantity of water from a stated underground source and/or body of surface water every year. The licence guarantees that no one else can lawfully take the share of water allocated to the licencee. waterexchange intends to provide a mechanism for trading these licenses.

more inset appointments
An inset appointment is made when an existing supplier of water and/or sewerage services is replaced by another eligible customer within a specified geographical area. Currently these arrangements are made bilaterally. waterexchange aims to create a more efficient and competitive forum for securing inset appointments.

more discharge consents
Discharge consents give the holder the right to release certain types and quantities of either poisonous, noxious, solid matter, trade or sewage effluent into controlled waters -- virtually all freshwater, groundwater, tidal and coastal waters to a distance of three nautical miles out to sea. Discharge consent holders will be able to sell their rights to other eligible parties through waterexchange.

more water pipe capacity
Third party access in other UK network industries (such as gas, electricity, telecom, and railways) is now commonplace. As some of these markets have developed further, the trading and exchange of capacity in the network has also emerged. Incumbent water companies have already developed network codes, which initiates the development of pipeline capacity trading. waterexchange will become a trading medium for this new capability.

more manpower and contractor services
Job vacancies in the water industry and availability of contractor services at short notice will be posted on the waterexchange bulletin board.

more secondary markets
waterexchange provides the ability to trade associated products and, in the longer term, sophisticated water industry-related tradable products and financial instruments as they emerge.
